I know that "what if reddit user but character in a book" is a whole genre nowadays, but I haven't read any of the books until this one: "what if social anxiety, but with lasers" and all of the r/meirl goes "representation!"

The plot, wordlbuilding, main character - all were uninspired and flat, the execution fell miles short of the ideas it wanted to introduce, the only saving grace of this book is that it was mercifully sho …Read More

Read More

I found the book to be really good at the beggining, too fast and erratic all through the middle and bland in the end. Feel-good ending of the book made me feel good, but felt oversweetened.
Liked the book enough to continue with the next one.

My mind was blown every time plot twist happened in the second half of the book. Despite physics parts of the book being too complicated for me (there were times I didn't understand anything for a few pages) I enjoyed the book so much, it's such an imaginative take on evolution of mind and interstellar travel.

I'd totally recommend it as the first book of Egan's to new readers. In "Diaspora" Greg Egan shows how smart his fic …Read More

Some parts of this book is scary and upsetting in way only an economics book can be.

Even though it's an easy read, as in, it's written really well and easily digested, I've had a very hard time finishing it. I started the book thrice, and twice I flinched and stopped midway. Third time really turned out to be the charm, but it took me two month to finish. But I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone.

This is an amazing book. Stories in this collection not as hard as some of Egan's other works but they still are as hard sci-fi as can be. I really enjoyed the writing and thought-provoking themes, and I'd highly recommend to people as the first book of Egan to read (especially to people who fear that they need STEM degree to read his works) - just to get a glimpse of what this amazing author can do.

But what truly amazed me …Read More

Absolutely blessed book on many levels.
Being a non-native English speaker it took me a little whale to get used to constant puns.
