I listened to Soul Eater by Lily Mayne and did not enjoy it. Mostly because I didn’t like Danny. He felt almost like a reader-insert character to me; his thoughts, feelings and action never quite build into a coherent character. (And why is he so frustratingly useless in all the dangerous situations?!) Also, the villains are annoyingly over the top evil. Wyn is fine but a little too nice for my liking.

Fun but about as emotionally deep as a puddle.

I listened to the audio version. This might be my favourite Alexander Cendese's performance so far. He just shines in these himbo roles.
I kinda expected goofy shenanigans and the usual fluff going in, but this story hit me with hidden identity, surprising amount of longing, overlooked-side-characters-turned-main-characters and an actual heated couple's fight complete with tears in my fluffy Sadenverse books? I love it.

A lot tamer than i expected, unfortunately. Kinda wish the dynamic could go to a messier place before the characters get together. Still a fun read.

I devoured all five books. I am just so invested in Cooper and Park. I wish there were a dozen more books (even though I always get so stressed when the MCs end up in life threatening situations) sighs

I like the messy dynamic between the MCs, and the tension between them is compelling. But there’s so much other stuff that I didn’t care for. I started to lose interest in the central murder case around 1/3 into the book, which was not great for a mystery story. Almost all the side characters were unlikable, and a lot of their rants were just plain unpleasant to read. The pacing also felt weird at times. Reading this right a …Read More

3.5 + 0.5 star for having an Entitled Pretty Rich Boy, which is my jam.
He exudes some real hissy cat energy and it’s hilarious. Not really a complaint but the story went on a lot longer than I expected (there’s even a bonus story on the author’s website)
Sex scenes: good, but I'd like them more if they're a tad shorter
Switching: yes 👍
Asshole alert: they're both assholes. It's all good.
Possibility of reread: likely

Maybe it was because I wasn’t in the mood for a sweet fluffy romance, but I had a lot of difficulty staying engaged. For a book with its title, the rivalry fell by the wayside a lot quicker than I’d hoped. By that point, the romance just became too sweet and normal for me lol.
Also strict roles in a rival romance is just a lost opportunity.

I really really like this book. And this series deserves all the praise. The MC’s narrative voice is distinctive and adds a lot of personality. The mystery is interesting and serves the romance very well. The characters and setting feel grounded and alive.

I like the initial living in the beetle part more than the romance.

The family drama made this book a more compelling and intimate read for me than the first book. I couldn’t put it down. The slow relationship development and the miscommunication are frustrating but in an enjoyable way?
Though I have to say it is kind of upsetting how many injuries Cooper is accumulating in a relatively short span of time.

This book has the cuddliest himbo being a total slut with zero shame, and I’m here for it.
