I like the messy dynamic between the MCs, and the tension between them is compelling. But there’s so much other stuff that I didn’t care for. I started to lose interest in the central murder case around 1/3 into the book, which was not great for a mystery story. Almost all the side characters were unlikable, and a lot of their rants were just plain unpleasant to read. The pacing also felt weird at times. Reading this right after the Big Bad Wolf series probably didn’t help.
Another thing that really bothered me was the Jeff stuff. What had happened to Jeff was the ugliest thing in the whole book for me, and Somers’ lack of guilt and the subsequent defensiveness about it really rubbed me the wrong way.
