Bloodraven

Bloodraven
P.L. Nunn

Dark master/slave romance. Check the triggers. The story is more graphically violent than the usual fare. Story itself is interesting enough for me to finish considering the length (about 800 pages) but man was I annoyed.

Rant incoming.

Yhalen got over Bloodraven’s many jail-worthy abusive behaviors way too quickly, which is pretty standard in this kind of romance, but still, annoying. I really want to see a MC exerting some revenge or at least yell at a chastised LI for a change. (Maybe the problem is that the author often has already forgiven the abuser LI because he is their baby, but damn it, I’m still mad.)

What was more annoying is how Bloodraven has all the annoying traits of the super dominant possessive manly LI without the power or brain to keep Yhalen safe. He keeps dragging Yhalen through one dangerous situation after another (without any logical reason beside he liked having Yhalen around) which lead to some seriously fucked up damages being done. Being unhealthily possessive comes with the territory of dark romance, but a possessive LI sucking this bad at protecting his “possession” has to be a crime. He doesn’t even feel guilty about endangering Yhalen afterwards.

Not to mention Yhalen saved Bloodraven’s ass a lot more times than the other way around; and Bloodraven barely acknowledged being saved beside getting upset about “dark magic” and possibly owing debts to Yhalen, which he never paid back btw.
