A fun read after watching the acclaimed series. I found the book to be even more "chess-y" than the series, so if you play I think you'll enjoy the extra detail on her games. There were a few differences in characterization and plot, but for the most part it made me happy to see that the series was quite faithful to the book.

Thoroughly entertaining. An easy read that is definitely within the YA genre of sci-fi, I can see why so many people read this in their middle school years. The writing is solid, but there are pretty much no well-written female characters in this book. I would consider reading the next book in the series, all in all.

This series doesn't show any sign of letting up. Amazing.

I loved this book.

Fitzgerald's style of writing impressed me from the first chapter. His way of describing setting, characters, and small details were all beautiful. I loved that it was all written through the eyes of a character who, in truth, wasn't even really the protagonist. Through a little more than half the book I was pretty sure I was going to give it 4 stars on here, but the last few chapters tied it all together. …Read More

Really enjoyed the character development, the dialogue, and the way Shelley would describe the landscape. Definitely recommended.

Wow, I'm not really even sure how to begin my review of this novel. It was beautifully written and haunting. I had seen one of the later film adaptations a few years ago when my interest in 20th century history was first developing. I had a keen interest in WWII and thought that a film about WWI would be interesting. Though I enjoyed the film, it didn't impress upon me the same way the novel did, likely because of my age at …Read More

The Rum Diary was very entertaining. It kept me hooked all the way through, and it was fun to see Thompson's style in its early development. His first novel, you can see his wit and satire is there but still struggling to find itself. There was nothing wrong about this book and I enjoyed it from beginning to end, but it fell just shy of 4 stars. If you feel like a quick read thats funny and definitely in the Hunter S. Thomps …Read More

Definitely not what I was expecting. The book lacks the comedy of the film, but the depth of the political and social world in which the Bug War takes place was much more fleshed out. The descriptions of the tech and tactics can be a little tedious at times, but I appreciated that Heinlein backed up his vision even down to some nitty-gritty details.

Die Geschichte sich selbst war nicht schlecht. Ich denke, dass ich mein Deutsch ein bißchen mehr verbessern muss, bevor ich alle des Humors verstehen kann. Ich werde zu diesem Werk später zurück kommen.

Super charming. It's funny, thoughtful, endearing. It's a book I wish, selfishly, was longer; but I know it didn't need anything more.

Started off a little slow, but was interesting from the very beginning. Overall, an interesting idea that was explained in a good way.
