The Great Gatsby

Review by Greg

Jun 24, 2011
The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald

I loved this book.

Fitzgerald's style of writing impressed me from the first chapter. His way of describing setting, characters, and small details were all beautiful. I loved that it was all written through the eyes of a character who, in truth, wasn't even really the protagonist. Through a little more than half the book I was pretty sure I was going to give it 4 stars on here, but the last few chapters tied it all together. Fitzgerald's ending was perfect, and left me stunned. Not from the ending in itself, but the way it concluded his underlying message about the American Dream and what it means to pursue something you desire. Having read this after I read Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I can see why this book had such a profound effect on Hunter.

All in all, fantastic novel. I see myself reading it many more times in the future.
