The Weight of It All

Review by Sunshine and rain

Oct 13, 2016
The Weight of It All
N.R. Walker

I really enjoyed this book and I didn't think I would so it sat unread for sometime. This author's last effort was so disappointing that I hesitated multiple times but what the hey, I was on a plane and what can ya do? BAM!!! Right from the beginning Henry hooks me. He is hilariously funny in an unscripted, sometimes self deprecating way. He is 35, overweight and approaching his Gay dowager years according to his ex partner who left him after 8 years because he was "fat and old".
One thing I observe by reading MM is that Gay Men (or maybe just writers of MM fiction) seem to think they age in dog years. WTF?
He joins a gym to lose weight so he can get his loser ex back and signs up to be trained by a Chris Hemsworth look alike, Reed, who just happens to be Gay, sincere and over a period of time is totally into Henry. The story follows their budding relationship, Henry's improved health and self image and is full of humor at every point. Lovely supporting cast of characters, warm but not steamy sex was in the background and so for those who like panty burners this won't qualify but is definitely a 4.5 star read for plot, pacing and writing.
