Review by Sunshine and rain
Dec 18, 2016A whole lot of angry/hate sex, internalised homophobia and a fair to middling plot line adds up to a mediocre addition to the Straight Guys series.
This is Vlad's story. He was Roman's bodyguard and was a nasty character in the previous book : Just a bit obsessed. He was homophobic then and is homophobic now though it becomes increasingly clear he is battling repressed homosexuality.
His repressed angst abuts Sebastian's history of emotional abuse at the hands of bullies very similar to Vlad. This put a level of ickiness in the story that the author had to try valiantly to overcome.
There was so much potential with this character and some strides were made to humanise him but ultimately he still was markedly unpleasant at the close of the book. Meh!
I rounded this one up to 3 stars simply because it added to an otherwise enjoyable series. Readable but definitely not spectacular.
