Review by David
Oct 22Salvage is the third book in The Tide series, written by Anthony J. Melchiorri. It is an apocalyptic science fiction series, where a mysterious disease breaks out and quickly sweeps the planet. We quickly learn that this disease turns people into mindless and extremely agressive zombies. We follow a group of mercenaries for hire, named “The Hunters”, which are highly specialized in getting in and out of perilous situations, while armed with all the finest weapons and high-tech equipment one can need. The leader of these mercenaries, Dominic Holland, is a person who believes in the greater good, and thus he embarks on a race to find a cure for the disease.
Book three continues the ordeals of ex soldiers from The Hunters mercenary group. I found the book better than the second, as we at least have some plot progression. But we still have non-stop endless action-horror sequences, and they really blur into each other when they are 85% of the books content. There’s only so many ways you can make an action sequence interesting, when you have the same characters, mostly the same enemies, and the same situations. Instead of endless zombies, be now have endless Goliaths, which always require extraordinary sequences to escape from, but even that become tedious. This is backed up by guns-guns-guns. If you love guns, then you’ll like the series, because they are described so often, and with such care, that they have more personality than the paper thin characters you otherwise find in the series.
I listened to the audiobook version, as narrated by Ryan Kennard Burke. Overall I wasn’t too fond of his narration. It was monotonous, and he didn’t seem very excited about the narration. That being said, his voice was clear, and I had no problem following the story.
I received this audiobook from the author for free, and wanted to return the favor with a review. I have no affiliation with the author, the narrator, the publisher, or their pets (Although I am sure the latter are quite nice!).
