I’m actually not as annoyed by the descriptions of Mars as most of the reviewers seem to be. What bored me to tears was the story and the characters. While some aspects were engaging and promising and managed to pull me in, most of the book was very bland. Author likes to tell us something exiting and dramatic happened instead of putting us in the center of the action. Also, it’s such an American take on colonisation, just create ghettos based on the country of origin, right? God forbid people mix. Oh and the author apparently didn’t research the names of his characters. Nadia Cherneshevsky? Cherneshevsky is male surname, female is Cherneshevskaya. Maya Katarina Toitovna? Maya and Katarina are both first names, Russians have only one first name, surname and father’s name. Middle name doesn’t exist there.
