Night Shift

Night Shift

Love in the library lights: The night shift is a heartwarming tale of a bookworm, a basketball player and the romance that unfolds.

3.5 stars

Overall: The Night Shift is a cute and fluffy story with a very relatable female main character for us romance girlies. Topped with a male main character who is the true definition of a golden retriever boyfriend, it’s a perfect read on a cold, free Sunday.

Reasons to bump this up your tbr: This book is perfect if you are looking for an easy, lighthearted and cute read. Both Vincent and Kendall are very likable characters.
Vincent is a true gentleman with a kind heart who could be easily crowned as a consentking.
Kendall is the embodiment of an introverted romance reader with high expectations of her own love life. The relatability of this character made it such a fun read!

The insecurity and helplessness we all have experienced during a first love lay out in the open. The characters have (mostly) open communication and I love how honest and true this is to real life.

Reasons to bump this down your tbr: The missing backstory of both main characters is one of the reasons this is a three stars rating. I would’ve loved more details about Vincent’s life and how he became such a people-pleasing guy.

The story is on the brink of an insta-love story, which made it a bit too fast-paced for me. It’s so different from all the realistic elements of this story and made it out of character for Kendall in my opinion.

Quote I loved: “Reading is so much fun, but I’m tired of feeling all the best parts of my life have been lived in my own head.”

Tropes:
Sport romance (basketball)
College romance
He reads the books she loves
Insta love (kinda)

Content warning:
Mildly violence (off page)
