Review by Lore
Nov 15, 2024If you’re looking for a feel-good, nerd x jock romance to cleanse your palate between darker, angstier reads, this one’s perfect. It’s sweet and brimming with those “aww” moments that leave you smiling.
My heart is so soft for Ren. He’s pure sunshine—a golden retriever boyfriend in every sense of the term. His patience with Maddox as he sorts through his feelings is nothing short of heart-melting. That said, I had a few minor gripes with Maddox. His negative descriptions of Ren in the first half of the book—calling him “weird” even though they were supposed to be friends—didn’t sit quite right with me. I get that Maddox was struggling with his own feelings, but it felt a bit off.
The story itself is fast-paced, making it an easy, breezy read. Although the pacing I loved how well it portrayed the struggle of figuring out a big part of yourself while feeling the weight of everyone else’s opinions. Maddox’s internal conflict was written in a way that felt real.
If I had one wish, it’d be for more meaningful moments between Ren and Maddox. I would’ve loved to see a few extra scenes that showed how much they cared for and loved each other.
All in all, this is a sweet, satisfying read—perfect for anyone who loves a little nerd x jock magic!
Tropes:
College romance (mmc's are 19)
Nerd x Jock
grumpy x sunshine
double bi awakening
Spice: 2.5/5
