Arrows Through Archer

Review by Lore

Arrows Through Archer

I don’t think I’ve ever read a love story as gentle and soft as this one. The characters rarely talk openly about their relationship or feelings, but they show it in the smallest, most tender ways. It’s the kind of love you might miss if you’re not paying attention, but when you catch it, it hits you right in the heart.

The writing reminded me a lot of Hold Me Under by Riley Nash—full of beautiful, poignant quotes that perfectly capture emotions and moments, but without ever veering into cheesy or over-the-top territory.

The characters are flawed, and that’s where the story really shines. It’s about how they confront their pasts, overcome pain, and slowly learn to hope again. Sadness is a constant companion in their lives, but watching them work toward joy and healing was both heartbreaking and inspiring. I know some readers might hate Mal for the choice he makes eventually, but I couldn’t bring myself to. His decision made sense within the context of his journey, even if it hurt to watch.

So why did I rate this 4 stars despite all the glowing praise? The last 20% felt incomplete and, at times, rushed. One meaningful conversation between father and son could’ve made all the difference—a moment to reflect on their shared loss and the different ways they both love Asher. It would’ve added a much-needed layer to the ending.

That said, the epilogue was beautifully written. It tied everything together in a way that fit the story and its characters without leaning on tired clichés.

If you’re looking for a tender, deeply emotional read, this book is absolutely worth picking up. Just be prepared for a story that will quietly break your heart before stitching it back together.

Tropes:
Slow burn
Age gap (17 years)
Best friend’s dad
Small town
Hurt x comfort
A lot of caretaking

Spice: 1.5
