People We Meet On Vacation

Review by Scribe After Five

Aug 10
People We Meet On Vacation
Emily Henry

Emily Henry strikes again with People We Meet on Vacation — or as the UK calls it, You and Me on Vacation.

I love Alex and Poppy. Their dynamic is the epitome of the Friends to Lovers trope done right: layered history, banter, and a slow burn that keeps you hooked until the last page. This book nails the feeling of millennial ennui — that “what now?” after you’ve ticked off the life goals you thought would fulfill you.

It’s about finding your person, realizing that home isn’t a place but a person (or in this case, the lanky guy in khakis who hates change), and rediscovering joy when you’ve been feeling stuck.

The pacing shines with the vacation-flashback structure, slowly revealing what went wrong between them. And when the emotional payoff comes, it really lands.

If you like:

  • Slow burn romance

  • Travel backdrops

  • Characters with messy, human flaws

  • Stories about love after success

  • Romances that make you ache and grin…

…then this one’s worth packing in your carry-on. I’m already excited for the upcoming adaptation — Alex and Poppy on screen will be chef’s kiss.

Song choice: Party 4 U by Charli XCX
